Austrian ONE selects LocatioNet Platform -TM- LBS Middleware and Applications
NEW YORK, May 2, 2002

LocatioNet Systems Ltd. announced today that it has received two contracts from Austrian mobile operator ONE (Connect Austria Gesellschaft fuer Telekommunikation GmbH). ONE has contracted LocatioNet to supply it with its location-based services (LBS) middleware platform, along with its best-of-breed GIS toolbox and open set of APIs. The second contract is for the development and supply of two LBS applications designed to run on top of LocatioNet's middleware platform.

Under the terms of these contracts, LocatioNet has already supplied and integrated its LocatioNet Platform with ONE's cellular network, as well as with Nokia's mPosition GMLC for position determination. The LocatioNet Platform allows ONE to offer its subscribers an ever-growing array of LBS applications, starting with current 2G and 2.5G networks and handsets, and seamlessly migrating to 3G networks.

"This is another step made by ONE to extend our portfolio of value added services by offering our subscribers new and advanced location-based services. LocatioNet has offered us the best technological solution for the middleware platform and applications and enables us to offer the richest services in this new area", says J0rgen Bang-Jensen, CEO of ONE.

"We are extremely pleased that LocatioNet LBS solutions were chosen by ONE", says Ofer Tziperman, President and CEO of LocatioNet. "ONE is among the first mobile operators to realize that the future of LBS is not in providing a few vertical, tailor-made applications. LBS success is only possible through a one-time implementation of a comprehensive middleware platform that will manage all the LBS aspects required to provide rich service suites. We are confident that this approach will result in successful LBS-oriented business for ONE".

"LBS is one of the most exciting service areas in the mobile services industry", says Goran Cedergren, Segment Manager for LBS at Sun Microsystems. "Everybody is looking for services that will attract end-users and generate revenue for the operators and other service providers. LBS make the difference and provide value to users who need information and access to services independently on where they are, and whatever device they have in hand at that moment. This is an essential starting point and we will certainly see an increase in user friendly services based on Java".

The LBS market is extremely complex. An effective LBS solution requires all service elements (end-user devices, content providers, GIS engines, position determination technologies, operator infrastructure, etc.) to be properly integrated. The LocatioNet solution takes the pains out of service implementation, by providing a comprehensive middleware solution, which integrates content, applications, positioning and any GIS engine to quickly fulfill user requests over any type of mobile handset.

An open API and a user-friendly software development kit (SDK) make LocatioNet's middleware platform a `must have' product not just for wireless operators, but also for positioning technologies, GIS and content and application providers.
