Mellanox Surpasses 100,000 InfiniBand Port Sales Milestone

Data Center, Storage, High Performance Computing and Embedded Markets Driving Demand for 10Gb/sec Technology

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA and YOKNEAM, ISRAEL, July 29, 2003 - Mellanox Technologies, Ltd., the leading provider of InfiniBandTM silicon, announced today that as of June 2003 more than 100,000 InfiniBand ports have been shipped to customers for a broad range of InfiniBand based applications. This milestone comes just 6 months after Mellanox announced having exceeded the fifty thousand port shipment milestone.

"We are encouraged by the strong, broad based demand for 10Gb/sec InfiniBand solutions from several significant markets and the momentum that Linux based InfiniBand clustering solutions are gaining in the market," said Dana Krelle, vice president of marketing for Mellanox Technologies. "The deployment of large clusters, production ramps of embedded and storage solutions, plus end-customer enterprise data center results are all demonstrating that InfiniBand is delivering lower cost, higher performance solutions."

This continued growth is driven by many key accomplishments that have been achieved by Mellanox and the IBTA (InfiniBand Trade Association) community in the past six months. These include:

  • Strong Industry Push for Linux Clustering with Industry Standard Servers that enable higher performance server computing with greater scalability and flexibility at lower price points: InfiniBand is clearly becoming the new standard for Linux clustering
  • Oracle announces InfiniBand support to be included in their next major release and publishes InfiniBand performance advantages
  • Sun Microsystems to feature Topspin InfiniBand Gateways for Ethernet and Fibre Channel
  • IBM ServerProvenTM status obtained by Fabric Networks (formerly InfiniSwitch)
  • Network Appliance demonstrates 10Gb/sec low latency transfers over native InfiniBand storage
  • IBTA Media Event on June 17 in New York highlights enterprise data center real-world deployments demonstrating major InfiniBand advantages
  • High Port count 96-Port, 1.92 Terabit/sec InfiniBand switch platform available to enable large HPC clusters
  • Record InfiniBand results for the High Performance Computing (HPC) market
  • Multiple InfiniBand vendors offer production ready InfiniBand products including switches, HCAs, TCAs and software. These include: Fabric Networks, InfiniCon, JNI, Sanmina-SCI, SBS, Topspin, and Voltaire
  • HPC 64-node Linux Networx cluster delivers more than 500 Gflops out of the box without optimizations
  • Department of Energy (DOE) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) indicates InfiniBand as a future interconnect for DOE HPC clusters
  • PCI-Express HCA to be made available from Mellanox
  • Sky Computers, SBS and Mellanox lead IBTA effort for the adoption of InfiniBand for the Embedded Market
  • Intel opens InfiniBand lab in China
  • InfiniBand server blades featured by Appro, Racksaver, RLX, and Sky Computers
  • InfiniBand designed into Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (Advanced TCA) specification
  • Motorola tests ATCA 3.2 InfiniBand switch at PICMG PlugFest

About InfiniBand Architecture
InfiniBand Architecture is the only 10 Gb/sec ultra low latency clustering, communication, storage and embedded interconnect in the market today. InfiniBand, based on an industry standard, provides the most robust data center interconnect solution available with reliability, availability, serviceability and manageability features designed from the ground up. These parameters greatly reduce total cost of ownership for the data center. Low cost InfiniBand silicon that supports 10 Gb/sec RDMA transfers is shipping today providing eight times the bandwidth of Ethernet and three times the bandwidth of proprietary clustering interconnects. With an approved specification for 30 Gb/sec, InfiniBand is at least a generation ahead of competing fabric technologies today and in the foreseeable future.

About Mellanox
Mellanox is the leading supplier of InfiniBand semiconductors, providing complete solutions including switches, host channel adapters, and target channel adapters to the server, communications, data storage, and embedded markets. Mellanox Technologies has delivered more than 100,000 InfiniBand ports over two generations of 10 Gb/sec InfiniBand devices including the InfiniBridge, InfiniScale and InfiniHost devices. Mellanox InfiniBand interconnect solutions today provide over eight times the performance of Ethernet, and over three times the performance of proprietary interconnects. The company has strong backing from corporate investors including Dell, IBM, Intel Capital, Quanta Computers, Sun Microsystems, and Vitesse as well as, strong venture backing from Bessemer Venture Partners, Raza Venture Management, Sequoia Capital, US Venture Partners, and others.
