Jerusalem Global Ventures Invests $1 million in Notal Vision from Tel Aviv

May 2001: Dr. Dalia Megiddo, Managing Partner of InnoMed, the life sciences division of Jerusalem Global Ventures, announced today an investment of $1 million in Notal Vision. The company has developed a computerized, self-administered test, for the diagnosis and monitoring of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) the leading cause of adult blindness in the western world.

Dr. Megiddo stressed that the "exciting and innovative technology of Notal Vision coupled with the excellent quality of the entrepreneurs and the staff of the company, convinced us that this is a company with tremendous potential for quick growth as their product has real clinical value and offers a significant breakthrough for millions of people around the world who suffer from AMD.

Dr. Barak Atzmon, CEO of Notal Vision, said: "the special relationships that InnoMed has in the field of medical devices in general, and in particular with the ocular health giant Bausch & Lomb (one of the strategic investors in Jerusalem Global Ventures), will help Notal Vision reach its goal of turning our test into the standard medical treatment for AMD.

Notal Vision's Innovative Technology:
Until recently, only limited treatment of Age Related Macular Degeneration has been available and it is only in the past year that revolutionary new treatments have been developed, such as PDT, that can save the sight of those afflicted if they receive treatment at a very early stage of the disease. Today, a significant percentage of those afflicted are only diagnosed at a stage where they can no longer receive treatment. Even those starting to undergo treatment have often already suffered irrevocable partial loss of vision.

The test developed by Notal Vision will allow millions of people around the world who suffer from early stage AMD to monitor the progress of the disease and receive treatment in time to save their eyesight. Dr. Barak Atzmon and Dr. Yair Alster, both Ophthalmologists from the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center founded Notal Vision. Notal Vision's scientific advisory board is headed by Professor Neil Bressler of the Wilmer Institute at Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore. Professor Anat Levenstein, Director of the Ophthalmology Department at the Tel Aviv Medical Center and a world-renowned expert in the field of degenerative eye disease, serves as one of the company's scientific advisors.
